War of the Worlds 2017 has been nominated for Wonderbox Publishing's Opening Up Digital Fiction award!
It's a story about Carrie and Penny, two college sweethearts who find themselves separated by a whole state when a world-shattering alien invasion strikes. With Penny trapped under the wreckage of her university in the middle of alien-riddled New York City, Carrie must do whatever she can to cross the distance and reunite with her girlfriend in the face of the invaders' brutal agenda. Along the way she'll meet fellow refugees - like troubled teen dreamer Max - and have to work together with them to keep away from the Martian menace. Oh, and what's even going on with Anton, Carrie's weird older brother?
WotW2017 is a retelling of the Wells classic that adheres faithfully to the ideas set up in the original novel while telling a modern story through a modern medium. It played out in real time on Twitter over the course of November 2017. It's kind of about colonialism, kind of about the social-media-centric rise of far-right ideologies in the US, and kind of about the 2016 election, and I'd appreciate if you gave it a look and a vote.
